A great cake recipe for any occasion:

Preheat the oven to 180 degrees. Generously grease a 20 X 20 cm baking dish. In a large baking bowl, cream butter and sugar until well blended. Add egg, apples, nuts and vanilla and stir until blended. Later pour in the dry ingredients and mix thoroughly. Pour the batter into the baking pan and bake for 45 minutes until the cake is lightly browned. Test with chopsticks!

Let the cake rest in the pan for another 5 minutes, then turn it out and serve it either warm or cooled down to room temperature with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.
