A simple but delicious cake recipe:

Prepare a batter from the first 8 ingredients (eggs do not need to be separated). Transfer half of the dough into a second baking bowl, fold in the poppy seeds and add raisins and almond kernels if desired. If the dough becomes too dry, add a tiny bit more milk.

Grease loaf pan and sprinkle with semolina or breadcrumbs. Pour in half of the light dough, top with the poppy seed dough, and pour the second half of the light dough on top.

Bake at 170 to 180 °C for about 50 minutes. Should not get too dark! Dust with powdered sugar or cover with chocolate icing if desired.
