For the whole wheat waffles, cream butter with eggs and sugar until fluffy. Stir in the buttermilk.

Mix baking powder with flour and salt and add to the liquid ingredients. Mix briefly. Preheat waffle iron and grease with butter if desired. This is not necessary with a coated waffle iron.

Pour about 1 scoop of batter into the waffle iron and bake for 4-5 minutes. The whole wheat waffles are best served still warm.

Preparation Tip:

The wholemeal waffles go very well with maple syrup, cinnamon whipped cream and fresh fruit, for example bananas or strawberries.
