For the simple strauben, mix flour with milk, eggs and a pinch of salt to form a rather firm batter. Heat plenty of lard in a deep pan. Pour the mixture into a piping bag or funnel (close the opening with your finger at the beginning) and pour in grids of any size, or other shapes.

Bake the simple bunches until golden, lift out, dab with kitchen paper and sprinkle with powdered sugar.

Preparation Tip:

Serve applesauce or cranberry compote with the simple bunches.
