Total time: 1 hour

For the filling:

To make the “Buchteln” with poppy seeds, heat the milk to lukewarm (not too hot!), add a little sugar and dissolve the yeast in it.

Mix egg yolk with butter and sugar. Also add to the milk. Then knead everything with the flour to make a medium firm yeast dough. Place in a warm place and let rise.

For the filling, mix sugar, vanilla sugar, butter, poppy seeds, rum, milk, honey and cinnamon and bring to the boil.

Roll out the risen dough and cut into squares. Place a little of the filling in each square, fold the dough over it and shape into booklets.

Melt the butter. Roll each dough ball in butter and place them close together in an ovenproof dish.

Let the poppy seed balls rise again. Then bake for about 30-40 minutes at 190 °C.

Preparation Tip:

To serve, sprinkle the booklets with poppy seeds with powdered sugar and serve with vanilla sauce.
